The controller (software/electronics) provides the control/command part of the brushless motors. Its automatic configuration and precise regulation reduce noise, vibrations and increase speed up to 120000 – 240000 rpm.

Benefits

  • Increase in speed
  • Automatic configuration of the engine controller
  • Cost reduction for the control part
  • Reduction of motor noise and vibrations
  • Increasing the power of constant weight engines

Issue

The brushless motor market is growing rapidly: $25.6 billion in 2017 with an annual growth rate of 7.2%. Their widespread use is due to the cost reduction of electronic control systems. These engines are widely used by drones, in household appliances (hair dryers, etc.) and in cars (windshield wipers).

Today, the technical limit of current brushless motors lies in their inability to achieve high rotational speeds while limiting the associated noise. This prevents the development of motorized objects for new applications.

Solution

We have developed a controller (software/electronics) that is automatically configured and can reach high rotation speeds (120000 – 240000 rpm) while reducing noise and vibrations. This also makes it easier to design and dimension the motor and associated mechanisms (cost reduction).

This controller (software/electronics) provides the control/command part of the brushless motors and is composed of:

  • High-precision 10-bit current measurement for 100% of the time (without estimation)
  • A driver for controlling power transistors without short-circuit allowing high frequencies
  • Embedded regulation software based on a mapping of motor parameters (>100) recorded and replayed to stay as close as possible to the manufacturing defects of the motors (non-linear regulation)
  • An 8-bit microprocessor that allows a reduced cost
