An antiseptic solution for disinfecting operating areas, coloring disinfected areas red whilst limiting allergy risks.

Benefits

  • Colors the skin red
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Compatible with all skin types
  • Visible under surgical lamps
  • Stable formulation

Issue

Skin antisepsis is carried out before a surgical procedure. The use of a colored antiseptic is essential for clearly showing the disinfected area. This provides assurance that a given area has been properly disinfected. For a colored antiseptic to be effective for users, particularly surgeons, it should color the skin sufficiently, be hypoallergenic, and be presented in a stable, ready-to-use solution.
Existing solutions either provide insufficient coloration of the disinfected area, have high allergic risks, or an instable formula. This instability can materialize through inhomogeneity of the antiseptic/colorant mix, diminishing the properties of the end product and/or ease of application.

Solution

We have developed a formulation which combines a recognized antiseptic, chlorhexidine, with a red colorant.

The colored formulation:
- Demonstrates the same antiseptic effectiveness as chlorhexidine
- Effectively colors all skin types
- Is visible under a surgical lamp
- Limits the risks of hypersensitivity and allergies

User benefits:
- The disinfectant effect is identical to that observed with conventional disinfectants
- The skin is intensely colored which allows the surgical site to be easily visualized
- The coloration is compatible with operating theatres lit with surgical lamps
- The formulation is an alternative solution for patients allergic to colored antiseptics

This solution is already in use in operating theatres, and its stability in accordance with ICH standards has been validated.
This solution is available in ready-to-use 125ml bottles.
